Curatorial Statement: “Rabbits” by Saba Casalta
Rabbits is an exploration of the intricate interplay between identity, agency, and fate.
In this exhibition, each individual embodies the archetype of the rabbit—initially cast as the prey within the ecosystem of existence. This role serves as the foundation upon which their journey unfolds, presenting them with a critical choice: to remain passive or to enact change through deliberate action.
For those who choose the path of action, their trajectory leads them into the depths of the Rabbit Hole—a transformative process wherein they confront the precarious balance between survival and self-obliteration. As they traverse this empiric labyrinth, they inevitably encounter the threshold of crisis, embodying the role of the Crisis Actor, wherein the price of survival is the resignation of identity.
Conversely, for those who opt for passive acceptance, their journey unfolds along the path of the Martyr. Guided by the unseen hand of the Orchestra Director—an ethereal force that orchestrates the symphony of existence—they embark on a voyage of acceptance. Through the embrace of their predetermined fate, they transcend the fear of sacrifice and find solace in the fulfillment of their ultimate destiny.
Ultimately, both paths converge at the threshold of ego dissolution—a liminal state where identity fades in the furnace of existential metamorphosis. Whether through defiance or surrender, each individual grapples with the relentless current of fate and wrestles with the consequences of their decisions.
The stage is set for the culmination of their respective odysseys. Here, the Martyr submits to the final sacrifice, while the Crisis Actor emerges anew, cloaked in the guise of a reborn persona.
Rabbits invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of autonomy, destiny, and selfhood, prompting introspection and reflection upon the existential dilemmas inherent to the human experience.
